Family Letter - June, 2002
A lot has happened since we last wrote in March. We enjoyed our stay in San Diego where our new boat has been kept since acquiring, but thankfully we got the news that a slip had opened up in Peter's Landing in Huntington Harbor much closer to home. Oddly enough that was where we had our boat before with our beloved, tho deceased, "CottonClub" at our very first marina with our very first boat. (see Boat for Sale, this website for details of the demise of CottonClub). Peter's Landing is much closer to most of our family, and close to where both of us work. So it is much more convenient and it has some nice amenities, like a beach across the street, lots of shops and restaurants nearby, a boat store on site, quick ocean access, and lots of canals to explore. And we are only 26 miles from Catalina Island. In fact, sometimes we can actually see it if the haze lifts!
We had a somewhat harrowing voyage back up the coast on June 8. It involved a lot of throwing up and being a bit scared in the pitch black early hours. Thank goodness for radar, GPS, and the autopilot. Les was vowing to sell the boat the minute we reached landfall. However, I could relate it to childbirth, once it is over you forget the discomfort, are grateful to be alive, and look forward to your next "adventure". We plan on lots more! Our boat projects are coming along well and we need to take new pictures. It looks so different and has a new personality...ours. Les is doing most of the work part and I am doing the fun part, shopping and decorating. (see Cruising for more of our boat adventures)
We feel like our plans for long-range cruising are finally starting to become a reality. I have decided to retire in the summer of 2003! That is a huge step for me...I thought I'd be working forever. Now I am looking forward to enjoying my husband's company every day and a chance to gaze out at the ocean to my heart's content. We both could not be happier at the prospect.
Love, Lynn and Les
